Hour of Code Time is Here!
Each year in the month of December Bryant Woods hosts the Hour of Code. December 3rd-9th is Computer Science Education Week so during this time all students PreK through 5th grade will get a chance to explore coding. Technology classes this month will be taken over with a variety of coding activities and courses. Next week will be an introduction and exploration time to kick start the event.
We hope that by participating in Hour of Code it’ll spark interest in students to keep learning. Research also shows that kids can pick up programming concepts before they know how to read and write. In fact, their brains are more receptive to computer languages at a young age, just like foreign languages.
With technology changing every industry on the planet, computing knowledge has become part of a well-rounded skill set. But fewer than half of all schools teach computer science! Good news is, we’re on our way to change this. If you heard about the Hour of Code last year, you might know it made history. 100 million students have now discovered how accessible and fun computer science can be by doing just one Hour of Code.
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Learn more at http://HourOfCode.com, try an hour yourself and jump into to the world of computing!
