MAP Testing:  The fall session of MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) was administered to students in grades 1-5 during the month of October.  All students have completed testing.  Results related to students' progress and performance will be shared mid November.

Halloween:  Each year, BWES celebrates Halloween in-style with a parade and classroom parties.  We will continue that tradition this year on Tuesday, October 31st.  Students will be able to bring their costumes to school to change into before the parade.  The parade will take place on the BWES black top at 2:00, followed by classroom parties from 2:30-3:00.  We encourage families to join us during the parade outside.  To ensure that parade participants have adequate space to parade and watch their peers, families will have a designated location to watch the parade. Due due to space limitations in classrooms, only three (3) volunteers will be selected to assist with classroom parties.  Individuals who have been selected to volunteer will be notified by classroom teachers.  If you have any questions regarding Halloween, please do not hesitate to contact your student's teacher.

Conferences:  This year, conferences will be hosted on Monday, November 20th and Tuesday, November 21st for students in grades Pre-K to 5.  Conferences will be scheduled from 1:00-7:30 on both evenings.  Families are encouraged to participate in November conferences as detailed information about student.  More information about how to sign up for conferences will be shared in the coming weeks.

Attendance:  As temperatures begin the fall we will enter the season of sneezing and sniffles.  In the event that your student is absent from school for an illness of an otherwise "lawful" absence, please remit an note upon his/her return to school.  According to policy 9010, parents must submit

Volunteer Training:  We are excited about the many opportunities for families to GET INVOLVED at BWES.  In order to volunteer in classrooms, during events during the school day, or chaperone on field trips, all volunteers must complete the required Volunteer Training Module.  The training module is accessible via the BWES website at (http://bwes.hcpss.org/support).  Once the training module is complete both the Confidentiality Certificate of Completion and the Abuse and Neglect Certificate of Completion need to be turned into the front office in order to be considered for volunteer opportunities.  An in-person training will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 in the BWES Media Center.  Childcare will be provided.  If you have any questions regarding the online Volunteer Training Module or the in-person Volunteer training, please contact Ms. India Rosa-Skerrett, the Family Involvement Contact, or Ms. Williams-McKinney at 410-313-6859.

BWES PTA Fall Festival: Gather the family and join the PTA for an afternoon of fun on Saturday, October 28th from 12:00-3:00 at BWES. Participate in a variety of games that will bring enjoyment to the entire family.  Pumpkins decorated by our own BWES staff will be auctioned during the event.  Food and snacks will be available for purchase.  All proceeds will benefit Student Activities and School Support through the PTA.  This event is free but monetary donations will be accepted throughout the event.  For more information, please contact Kori Jones at kdjones13@gmail.com.
