Weather-Related Make-Up Days
So far, HCPSS has used 4 days for inclement weather.  The following dates have been designated by the Board of Education as make-up days:
  • Wednesday, April 4, 2018
  • Thursday, April 5, 2018
  • Friday, April 6, 2018
  • Friday, May 18, 2018 (3-Hour Early Dismissal)
  • Friday, June 15, 2018
Schools now will be in session on April 4, 5, and 6 and for a half-day on May 18.  The last day of school for students is now Friday, June 15.  The last three days of school, June 13, 14, and 15 will all be 3-hour early dismissal days for students.


Enrichment/Science and Invention Fair


On Thursday, April 26 from 6:30-8:00, BWES will host it's annual Enrichment/Science and Invention Fair!!!  Students in grades K-4 will have the opportunity to participate in the Science and Invention Fair by submitting projects that highlight their interest in science and the scientific process.  Students in grades 5 will also participate in Science Fair as a requirement for their 5th grade science course.  For more information about the Science and Invention Fair or if you are interested in serving as a judge, please click on the link below:



MAP Madness/PARCC Paradise


From 6:00-8:00 on Tuesday, April 10th BWES will host the MAP Madness/PARCC Paradise.  The evening will be filled with information, fun-filled activities, and interactive workshops for the entire family focusing on MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) and PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers).  MAP is administered three times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) to students in grades 1-2 and two times a year for students in grades 3-5 (Fall, Winter).  Students in grades 3-5 will participate in PARCC in April and May.  If you haven't already done so, please return your RSVP so that we can prepare for



Individual/Class Spring Pictures 


Students will be able to participate in spring pictures on Thursday, April 12, 2018.  Envelopes for ordering individual and class pictures will be sent home early next week.  


International Night


On Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6:30-8:00, BWES will be filled with the smells, sights and sounds of the various cultures represented by our families.  Families are invited to come and participate in crafts, games, food tasting, dancing, and a fashion show!  Feel free to bring a dish to share and wear your international outfit for the fashion show.   If you'd like to get more information about International Night, please contact Ms. Arroyo at or at 410-313-6859. 


Quarter 3 Report Cards


The end of the marking period is quickly coming to a close.  The last day of the marking period is Friday, April 13, 2018, which is also 3-hour early dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 12:15.  Quarter 3 Report Cards will be issued to students on Monday, April 23, 2018.


Volunteer Breakfast


We love our volunteers!!!  The support of our volunteers assists our students and staff in so many ways.  April 15-21 has been designated as National Volunteer Week.  This annual celebration seeks to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and volunteering.  BWES will be recognizing its volunteers during our annual Volunteer Breakfast on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 in the BWES cafeteria.  The breakfast serves as a simple way to say "thank you for helping our kids blossom."   Invitations were sent home this week in Thursday folders.  If you are planning to attend the Volunteer Breakfast, please RSVP by Monday, April 16, 2018.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Shaul at or at 410-313-6859.


PARCC Testing


The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, also known as PARCC, is administered each spring to students in grades 3-5.   The PARCC assessments cover two courses – English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Mathematics (MATH).  These assessments are intended to be used as indicators of student needs and progress for teachers to identify and address.  The window for the administration of PARCC begins Monday, April 23 and continues through Tuesday, June 5, 2018.  Please be on the look out for your child's specific assessment dates on teacher's individual Canvas pages.  Please make sure that your student is well-rested and arrives on time to school on assessment days.



Spring Musical


Please join students and their families in grade for the annual spring musical.  This year's performance, "School Daze," features students and staff on stage.  There will be two performances of School Daze, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.  Come out and support our fifth graders as they sing and dance this spring.
